CIATTARELLI THIS WEEK: FLIP FLOPS ON MASKS, SAYS HE’LL “MONITOR SITUATION” AS DELTA VARIANT SPREADS
Abrupt Reversal From GOP Candidate Comes After Poll Shows 67% of NJ Voters Support Mask Mandate
TRENTON, NJ — After weeks of dishonestly attacking Governor Murphy’s school mask mandate with a barrage of misinformation and blatant lies about COVID-19 not affecting children, Republican gubernatorial candidate Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli has abruptly reversed his extreme position and is once again looking for “wiggle room” to mislead voters. In an interview with Politico NJ, a Ciattarelli campaign spokesperson attempted to walk back the candidate’s anti-science stance, saying that he would “monitor the situation” as cases increase due to the Delta variant and schools prepare to open in September. This comes only a few days after Ciattarelli falsely declared, “Children are not vulnerable to the virus.”
Ciattarelli’s campaign logic is staggering, so here is a simple question for him: if he thinks children can’t get the virus, why would he all of a sudden think masking is important?
“Jack Ciattarelli’s reckless, cynical games are being unmasked as he engages in one of the most egregious flip flops in New Jersey history now that he sees how toxic his anti-mask position really is,” said NJDSC Executive Director Saily Avelendai. “This is classic Jack Ciattarelli — throwing red meat to his extremist base while seeking ‘wiggle room’ from voters. Ciattarelli’s disregard for science and facts is dangerous and he’s unfit to be governor.”
