TRENTON, NJ – The New Jersey High School Democrats in partnership with the New Jersey Democratic State Committee are hosting a youth voter registration drive at Millburn High School in Essex County on Thursday, April 28, and Friday, April 29, assisting in a statewide initiative to register young voters and encourage participation in the democratic process.
“Engaging with young people and soon-to-be voters is a critical part of keeping our democracy alive. We want New Jersey students to know that their civic participation is not just important, but necessary,” said NJDSC Chairman LeRoy J. Jones, Jr. “I want to thank the New Jersey High School Democrats for being available at Millburn High School this week to help students realize the power and influence that exists in being an active voter. We need their voices.”
Students who are 17 will be able to register to vote, with their registration becoming active on their 18th birthday. Students 18 years and older can register in time to participate in the upcoming Primary Election on June 7th. The registration deadline to vote is May 17, 2022.
“We are the next generation of voters in New Jersey and want to be an example of active participants in a process that sometimes feels overwhelming to our age group ,” said Rachel Gurevich, Chair of the NJ High School Democrats. “We will be there to help or answer any questions and hope that a significant number of our fellow high school students will leave our drives registered (and willing) to vote in the upcoming elections!”
