NJGOP Calls On NJ To File Lawsuit Against Communist Party of China
For Immediate Release
Trenton, NJ – Chairman Steinhardt has previously condemned the Communist Part of China (CPC) for its negligence and deceit in providing important early warnings on the seriousness of COVID-19, calling this pandemic the Chinese Chernobyl.
Since then, there has been a growing chorus of unrest with the CPC, among New Jersey leaders. Senator Mike Testa (LD-1) joined Chairman Steinhardt in calling on Governor Murphy to focus on aiding our national security and improving our state’s economy by brining more pharmaceutical manufacturing to New Jersey and divesting from Chinese pharmaceuticals.
Chairman Steinhard then called on New Jersey’s Congressional delegation to step up and take action to lift China’s statutorily granted sovereign immunity. This would allow the State of New Jersey to formally file suit against the CPC for damages to our businesses, healthcare workers and others. Congressmen Chris Smith and Ron Wright (R-TX) answered that call and sponsored legislation to make that happen.
Last week the state of Missouri became the first to sue the Chinese government over the coronavirus pandemic, followed by Mississippi.
The New Jersey Republican State Committee and Chairman Steinhardt are calling on New Jersey to take the same action.
“Before Governor Murphy raises taxes by a nickel, we need the state of New Jersey to hold the Chinese government accountable,” said NJGOP Chairman Doug Steinhardt. “We are witnessing thousands of loved ones die, record unemployment, and countless New Jersey families struggle. We could have mitigated an untold level of pain if the Chinese government was honest with the world from the beginning.”
