Norcross statement on suspicious envelope addressed to Cherry Hill district office

CHERRY HILL – Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) today made the following statement after the United States Postal Service identified a suspicious envelope addressed to his district office in Cherry Hill:

“Yesterday, the Postal Service intercepted a suspicious envelope that was addressed to my Cherry Hill office. I’m grateful to the Postal Service and law enforcement for identifying the threat and working to keep my staff and I safe,” Norcross said. “A single threat against one elected official is chilling enough. But it’s more common than ever that elected officials and their staff – no matter their title nor party – are being targeted for no other reason than choosing public service. That’s unsustainable for any version of a healthy, functional government. As more Americans learn the scale, frequency, and severity of these types of threats, it should be a wakeup call to prioritize building a politics where passionate disagreement doesn’t have to be violent.”

Norcross’ office is the latest target among dozens of House offices that have been mailed suspicious substances. So far, none of the envelopes have tested positive for hazardous substances.
