Now Law: Vainieri Huttle & Chaparro Resolution Designating March 9 as Annual ‘COVID-19 Heroes Day’

(TRENTON) – Recognizing the critical efforts and sacrifices of essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, a bi-partisan resolution sponsored by Assembly Democrats Valerie Vainieri Huttle and Annette Chaparro designating March 9 of every year as ‘COVID-19 Heroes Day’ was signed into law Tuesday.

The law (formerly resolution AJR-166/SJR-82) commemorates essential workers who worked during the pandemic in order to bring awareness to and demonstrate support for the people who risked their safety on behalf of the state.

Assembly sponsors Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-Bergen) and Annette Chaparro (D-Hudson) issued the following joint statement:

“Essential workers are undeniably the heroes of this pandemic. Childcare providers, food service and grocery store employees, transportation and postal workers, warehouse employees, first responders, healthcare professionals and all other frontline workers have all kept New Jersey running through an unprecedented crisis. Without them, where would we be?

“Every day, they have risked their health and safety in order to ensure the well-being of families and communities throughout our state. Designating a COVID-19 Heroes Day is a way for us to thank our essential workers and make sure New Jersey never forgets their hard work, dedication and heroism.”
