OPERATING ENGINEERS ENDORSE ANDRE SAYEGH FOR MAYOR

PATERSON, NJ – The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 68 (I.U.O.E) today endorsed Sixth Ward Councilman Andre Sayegh in the race to become the next Mayor of Paterson. In announcing their endorsement, Local 68 noted Sayegh’s accomplishments in reducing crime and bringing economic development to the sixth ward, and Paterson’s urgent need for a leader who will deliver positive results for the whole city.

“Paterson has incredible potential on many different fronts, but it needs strong and dedicated leadership,” said Assemblyman Tom Giblin (D-34), Business Manager for Local 68. “Andre’s hard work and devotion to Paterson is evident in the positive changes he has brought to the sixth ward. He has proven he is the leader Paterson needs to achieve that same progress in every ward of the city. Andre is the mayor Paterson needs to move forward. He will give all the people of Paterson the responsible leadership and government they deserve,” Giblin said.

Founded in 1896, the International Union of Operating Engineers is a diversified trade union that represents operating engineers who work as heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and surveyors in the construction industry, and stationary engineers, who work in operations and maintenance in building and industrial complexes. The IUOE represents more than 400,000 members through 200 local unions in the United States and Canada. Local 68 represents 6,000 members.

“I am deeply honored to have the support of the Operating Engineers,” Andre Sayegh said. “Paterson is New Jersey’s first industrialized city and has always been home to working families. The labor unions that support working families are an important part of our city’s history, and a crucial component of our future as we bring new development to Paterson and work to provide economic opportunity for all Patersonians,” Sayegh said.

Paterson’s municipal elections are May 8. Voters will cast ballots for mayor, and for three at-large council seats.

Andre Sayegh has represented Paterson’s Sixth Ward since he was first elected in 2008.  He previously served on Paterson’s Board of Education from 2004-2008. For more information about Councilman Sayegh and his campaign, visit andresayegh.com.
