OSC Urges State to Withhold Funds to Union County

A December 2023 report by OSC found that Union County violated the law when it awarded $417,772 in supplemental pay to three top officials without following the public legislative process required by law. In a letter sent to Governor Murphy and legislative leaders last week, Acting State Comptroller Kevin Walsh noted that Union County officials have refused to comply with OSC’s directive to submit a corrective action.

Walsh urged Governor Murphy to withhold public funds from the County and recommended that state officials require OSC’s approval for supplemental payments to top County officials. Walsh also said that both measures should stay in effect until OSC finds that the County has submitted and complied with a corrective action plan, as the law requires.
