Parents Inc. Announces Statewide Parent Leadership Recognition Event
First Lady Tammy Murphy to Receive Parent Champion Award

TRENTON, NJ (February 9, 2022) – In recognition of National Parent Leadership Month in February – a time to recognize, honor and celebrate parents for their vital leadership roles in their homes and communities – Parents Inc. is hosting a virtual Annual Parent Leadership Recognition Event on Wednesday, February 23 from 10 a.m. – noon to honor parent leaders and promote Family Success. The statewide leadership recognition celebration Speak Up, Take Action, Create Change! is free and open to the public.

This year, Parents Inc. will present First Lady Tammy Murphy with the highly coveted “2022 Parent Champion” Award for championing the cause of mothers and infants. Her initiative Nurture NJ, is a statewide, multi-agency campaign committed to both reducing maternal and infant mortality and morbidity and ensuring equitable care among women and children of all races and ethnicities. In January 2021, the First Lady unveiled the Nurture NJ Maternal and Infant Health Strategic Plan, which aims to make New Jersey the safest and most equitable place in the nation to deliver and raise a baby through more than 70 specific, actionable recommendations.

Additionally, the Jolly K. Award will be presented to two New Jersey Parents for demonstrating strong parent leadership as modeled by Jolly K., the founding parent of Parents Anonymous. Nominated by community members, these Parents Inc. support group members are selected for this award based on the significant contributions they have made to support the principles of Parents Anonymous: parent leadership, mutual support, shared leadership and personal growth.

“Each year, we hold this event to honor Parent Leaders and encourage others to raise their voices to promote success for parents and their families,” said Kathleen Roe, executive director, Parents Inc., and board member, Family Success Institute. “Building successful families and communities can best be achieved when professionals, policymakers, and concerned citizens work in partnership with parents to improve systems, neighborhoods, and policies. That’s what Parents Inc. is all about!”

The event will kick off with opening remarks by Kathleen Roe, executive director, Parents Inc. and board member, Family Success Institute; Doreen Finley, assistant director, Parents Inc.; and Thomas Blatner, board president, Family Success Institute. The “Speak Up” Parent Leader Panel will feature a lively and engaging dialogue with a panel of parents from all over the state speaking about the importance of parent as leaders in their homes and in their communities.
