PASCRELL ENDORSED BY SIERRA CLUB

Trusted environmental watchdog recognizes record of fighting climate change

PATERSON, N.J. – Citing his “demonstrated commitment to protecting America’s environment,” the Sierra Club today endorsed Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr.’s (NJ-09) campaign for Congress.

“I am honored to receive the support of the Sierra Club,” said Congressman Pascrell. “The Sierra Club is literally working to save the world from environmental destruction – and I stand beside them. I endorse science, I abhor pollution, I support clean energy solutions, I demand a Green New Deal to guide America’s future. As Trump and Republicans continue their war on science and the environment, I will fight their arson every day. Protecting our earth isn’t just about us in the present but about our children and grandchildren in the future – that’s who I’m working for.”

“Congressman Pascrell is an environmental champion ever since he was first elected. He has been a leading voice for cleaning up toxic sites and Superfund Sites and standing up to Trump’s rollbacks on the environment. Congressman Pascrell is a fighter for clean air, clean water, and reducing climate change impacts. He has also worked tirelessly in passing legislation to protect Great Falls National Park. Congressman Pascrell is a great leader in Congress and we strongly support his reelection,” said Jeff Tittel, Director of the New Jersey Sierra Club.

Across his entire tenure in office, Congressman Pascrell has a strong record of environmental protection and combating climate change. His lifetime League of Conservation Voters national environmental voting record score is 93%. In October, Pascrell reintroduced the Offshore Wind Power Act to facilitate more affordable and reliable clean energy options and has introduced this clean energy legislation dating back to 2009. Pascrell is a cosponsor of the Green New Deal and was a vocal advocate for H.R. 9, the Climate Action Now Act, which passed the House earlier this year. Last week, Pascrell introduced the Superfund Polluters Pays Act as an original cosponsor with House Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone Jr. (NJ-06) and Sen. Cory Booker to have polluters pay for cleaning hazardous waste sites. Pascrell has worked assiduously with federal officials to advance remediation of contaminated sites in New Jersey and elsewhere. Pascrell works to protect our open spaces and was the prime driver behind the creation of the Paterson Great Falls National Historic Park. Earlier this year, Pascrell called on the U.S. Secretary of Commerce to commence a national security investigation into the threat of carbon pollution.
