Pascrell Hails $1.1 Billion Investment in New Jersey Bridges

Nationwide Bridge Day celebrates Biden administration’s big investment in nation’s decaying bridges

PATERSON, NJ – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today announced the Biden administration is investing $1.1 Billion to replace or rehabilitate aging bridges in New Jersey. This funding is part of a whopping $26.5 billion to states across our nation, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico over the five years of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (H.R.3684). This week’s announcement will total $5.3 billion to states for fiscal year 2022, which includes $229,400,000 for New Jersey that can impact over 500 eroded or decaying bridges in the Garden State. Within the Ninth Congressional District, two bridges eligible for repairs under this program include the Route 3 eastbound bridge over the Hackensack River and Meadowlands Parkway in East Rutherford and Secaucus, as well as the Route 9W Bridge over Routes 95, 1&9, 46, and 4 in Fort Lee.

Rep. Pascrell joined President Biden and Governor Phil Murphy to announce infrastructure funding for NJ.

“I can state with confidence that no state and its people rely more on working roads and bridges than Garden Staters,” said Rep. Pascrell, a lifelong champion in Congress for transportation funding. “Some of our bridges date back to when William Howard Taft roamed the White House and the Athletics played home games in Philadelphia. The decrepit state of these bridges is no nostalgic novelty: these potential travel hazards are a risk to public safety and create seemingly endless delays that steal hours away from workers and their families. This historic investment is made possible because of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that Congress passed that will allow us to update and repair some of the worst roadways in our state and nation. The smoother drives commuters and travelers in our region will enjoy from this investment will improve the lives for millions of our neighbors for generations to come. I am grateful for the leadership of President Biden to bring this bill into reality and look forward to working with Governor Murphy to ensure bridges on Route 3 and the Route 9W Bridge are rehabilitated.”

As a one-time member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Rep. Pascrell has championed road and bridge investment throughout his tenure in Congress. On October 25, 2021, Pascrell joined President Biden in Kearny to tout reconstructing the century-old Portal Bridge that has bedeviled Garden State commuters for years along the Northeast Corridor. Rep. Pascrell is a leader in the state delegation to finally achieving the Gateway Tunnel for the region.
