Pascrell Votes to Hold Trump Toadies Navarro and Scavino in Contempt of Congress
Former top White House aides join cavalcade of Trump enablers obstructing January 6 probe
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today voted in favor of a House resolution finding former Trump White House trade advisor Peter Navarro and former Trump Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with subpoenas from the January 6 commission. The resolution opens the door for the Department of Justice to pursue criminal charges against the pair.
“We learn more every day of the massive conspiracy directed by the Trump White House to overturn the election and topple American democracy. Peter Navarro and Dan Scavino are part of that continuing conspiracy,” said Rep. Pascrell. “Refusing a subpoena is obstructing justice. It is my understanding Mr. Navarro did not even acknowledge the subpoena or congressional outreach. Imagine the gall of this disgraced man. Anyone who obstructs Congress and covers up insurrection should be tossed into the slammer. These men are trying to tear down American democracy. There must be consequences.
“Furthermore, it has now been 113 days since our House found Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in contempt. And for 113 days the Justice Department has not acted on that citation. The lack of urgency is inexplicable. The Justice Department is wasting priceless time to safeguard the rule of law.”
Rep. Pascrell has been outspoken in demanding accountability for the Capitol terror riot and Republican attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. On December 11, 2020, Pascrell urged House leadership to “refuse to seat in the 117th Congress any Members-elect seeking to make Donald Trump an unelected dictator.”
