Perth Amboy, NJ (April 15, 2021)
Mayor Helmin J. Caba and the Perth Amboy Police Benevolent Association (PBA) are proud to announce their signed agreement presented to the Perth Amboy City Council on April 15, 2021. Wednesday’s agenda included a resolution that authorized the execution of an agreement between the PBA and City of Perth Amboy that passed unanimously by city council members (5-0). The agreement, approved by the PBA union membership, includes patrol officers and detectives.
Key terms of the agreement:
- Increased Community Training Hours
- Competitive Salaries
“PBA Local No.13 and its members would like to thank Mayor Caba for his understanding, his willingness to make himself available, and his resolve to assist the City and the PBA in reaching a fair and equitable settlement, said Danny Gonzalez, PBA State Delegate. “This contractual dispute was a burden not only to the PBA, but also to the City and taxpayers. We would also like to thank City Council members for supporting Mayor Caba and his decision to finally bring this contract dispute to an amicable conclusion. It was always the PBA’s understanding that both the City and the PBA maintained mutual respect during these contractual negotiations. The PBA looks forward to working with Mayor Caba and the City Council to make our city a safer and better place to live and work.”
The PBA also acknowledged Police Chief Roman McKeon, Deputy Chief Larry Cattano, Labor Relations Consultants Marc Abramson and Brian Furry, and all of the men and women who supported the PBA during these past two and a half years. PBA President, John Marcinko, PBA Vice President, Daniel Mendes, and PBA Secretary Thomas Fazio congratulated Mayor Caba for his hard work, patience, and professionalism during these trying times.
“I want to thank the PBA for their level of professionalism and commitment to this process,” said Mayor Caba. “This contract was one of my top administrative priorities since taking office in January. This contract represents the guiding principle of change in policing and its culture. Developing and maintaining clearly articulated and widely circulated organizational expectations, in the truest sense, is leading the way for the future of policing. Congratulations to the PBA on the contract and the city council members for their support.”
