Peg Schaffer’s Statement on the George Floyd Verdict
Somerville, NJ – I applaud the Minnesota Prosecution and the Minneapolis jury for doing their best to provide justice for George Floyd. The three guilty counts were warranted and right, but while they are a victory for our justice system sadly they are not enough. Nothing can restore George Floyd to his children, his parents, his siblings, or his girlfriend. We have accountability, but we do not yet have justice.
Justice will come when we have looked at the inequities in our country at all levels, whether in policing or infrastructure or education. As Americans, we need to fight as hard as we can to ensure that the American Dream is available to all Americans, that privilege is not the purview of one race but of all Americans.
