Pennacchio Rebukes Democrats for Political Game that is Harming Atlantic County Families
Calls on Senate Democrats to Allow Polistina to Take his Senate Seat Immediately
New Jersey is saddled with one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation, and Atlantic County, at 11.1 percent, has the highest percentage of residents out of work. More than any other area of the state, Senator Pennacchio said, they need help from their State Senator ensuring that people get the unemployment benefits they deserve.
“How can the Trenton Democrats do this to residents of the 2nd Legislative District and Atlantic County? It’s shameful,” said Pennacchio (R-26). “The Governor’s unemployment fiasco has resulted in thousands of residents not getting their checks or having them delayed.
“Senators and their aide in districts across the state have been working diligently as facilitators to help constituents receive their money, but petty partisan posturing is preventing the Senator who could be helping desperate families from doing his job,” Pennacchio lamented.
Senator Vince Polistina was sworn in Monday to replaced former State Senator Chris Brown, who stepped down to take a job with the Murphy administration.
Pennacchio said the new Senator should be occupying the District Office and doing everything his Republican colleagues have been doing to ensure eligible families who lost income during Murphy’s pandemic orders are getting the checks they need to put food on the table.
“The Democrats are choosing politics over people,” Pennacchio said. “This is shameful. Atlantic County families deserve a Senator fighting for them. The Democrats want to wait three long months before their representative is seated. That is unacceptable. Let’s get him in there as soon as possible.”
