PEOPLE’S ORGANIZATION FOR PROGRESS (POP) SAYS EXIT FROM AFGHANISTAN IS LONG OVERDUE
The People’s Organization For Progress (POP) issued a statement today in support of the exit of American military forces and the end of the U.S. war in Afghanistan.
“The People’s Organization For Progress (POP) not only supports the withdrawal of U.S. troops and the end of the war, we believe it was long overdue and should have happened many years ago,” stated Lawrence Hamm, Chairman, People’s Organization For Progress.
“POP opposed the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan from the outset and believed it would have disastrous consequences. It became, like Vietnam, another failed imperialist war and military occupation,” Hamm said.
“Lasting 20 years, it was the longest war in U. S. history. It left hundreds of thousands dead and wounded and cost trillions of dollars, with no lasting tangible benefits,” he stated. “We haven’t adequately taken care of the veterans of this war and wasted billions of tax dollars abroad that could Have been spent on people’s needs in this country,” he said. “It appears that the only real beneficiaries of this conflict are war profiteers at home connected to the military industrial complex who have made fortunes from the war and corrupt leaders in Afghanistan that received and stole billions in U. S. aid,” Hamm stated.
“George W. Bush, Dick Chaney, Donald Rumsfeld (who is dead), Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell and others should be held accountable for dragging the country into this debacle and for any war crimes that may have been committed,” he said. Finally, Hamm said he didn’t think any lessons will be learned from this war and that disastrous mistakes were made by Democratic and Republican administrations.
”Unfortunately, this will not be the last U.S. imperialist war. Capitalism and imperialism thrive on war,” he said.
