PARK IMPROVEMENT SAFEGUARD CHILDREN AT PLAY
Assembly Speaker Coughlin, Assemblywoman Lopez, and Mayor Caba join residents for ribbon cutting ceremony at Washington Park for new perimeter fence.
In response to residents’ concerns about the safety of children running after balls or ice cream vendors, the City of Perth Amboy, with the support of Senator Joe Vitale, Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin, and Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez secured state funding for perimeter fencing for one of the more active playgrounds, located in Washington Park.
“Our children need safe places to play outdoors with friends and family. Washington Park is a treasure in our community where families can build memories that will last a lifetime,” said Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin (D-Middlesex). “The Park’s new protective fence is the result of years of advocacy and collaboration between local and State partners. Infrastructure projects enhance our communities, and in this case, make them safer for our children. Congratulations to the City of Perth Amboy.”
“First and foremost, I want to offer my sincerest congratulations to Mayor Caba and his administration for completing the fencing of Washington Park,” said Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez (D-Middlesex). “Projects like the brand new fence at Washington Park demonstrate the power of collaboration between the city and its Legislative partners. I look forward to continue advocating for my hometown and am grateful to have played a role in this meaningful project. I know our children and families will enjoy this park with enhanced safety for years to come.”
“We understand the need for public parks and their benefit to our families. We also understand how playgrounds can get expensive,” said Mayor Caba. “Working with these inspiring partners is what makes the difference to help keep our parks safer. This funding not only represents the safety measures taken for our children, but also the spirit of community in working together. “
