Polistina: Congratulations to Laura Matos on Her Appointment

Senator Vince Polistina (R-Atlantic) applauds the appointment of Laura Matos on her historic appointment as the only Latina representative on the 2021 New Jersey Apportionment Commission.

“Given the significant and increasing diversity of District 2 and New Jersey in general, Chairman Jones has made an excellent choice to include a Latina representative on the commission,” said Senator Polistina. “We need to ensure that all voices are being heard and considered when undertaking such an important task as redrawing New Jersey’s legislative districts.”

Polistina also noted that the addition of Ms. Matos unfortunately resulted in South Jersey losing a representative on the Commission.

“While we never want to see South Jersey not having a voice in these types of situations, having a representative that always seems more focused on what’s best for him and the Camden County organization as opposed to the people of this state is not helpful,” said Polistina. “We only need to look at Former Senate President Sweeney’s unilateral refusal to allow the District 2 Senator’s phones to be turned on for months during a pandemic in 2021 to recognize that he isn’t always focused on providing the people of New Jersey the help and assistance that they need and deserve.”
