PRINCETON UNIVERSITY CONCERTS ANNOUNCES DO-RE-MEET: LGBTQ+ SINGLE MINGLE

PRINCETON UNIVERSITY CONCERTS ANNOUNCES DO-RE-MEET: LGBTQ+ SINGLE MINGLE

In its continued efforts to help people connect over a shared love of music, Princeton University Concerts, in partnership with The Singles Group, offers a pre-concert LGBTQ+ Single Mingle at Tipple & Rose, paired with an ensuing concert by jazz vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant at Richardson Auditorium.

PRINCETON, NJ — In the aftermath of pandemic shutdowns, Princeton University Concerts (“PUC”) redoubled its commitment to providing ways to connect through music. To that end, the concert series launched the brand-new initiative Do-Re-Meet – Social Events for Music Lovers in December 2022. The first program of its kind, Do-Re-Meet encompasses a variety of social events paired with a concert experience, including: speed dating; Find Your Friends, a “speed friending” event for people seeking a concert-going community; and an LGBTQ+ Single Mingle, presented in partnership with the Princeton University Gender + Sexuality Resource Center.

The first Do-Re-Meet: LGBTQ+ Single Mingle will be on Wednesday, April 12. The evening will begin at 7:00 PM at Tipple & Rose on Nassau Street. After enjoying tasty bites and fun facilitated games, Do-Re-Meet-ers will head to Richardson Auditorium together to enjoy the 9:00 PM concert featuring jazz vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant.

As part of the Princeton University campus-wide celebration of the 30th anniversary of Toni Morrison winning the Nobel Prize in Literature, Princeton University Concerts has co-commissioned MacArthur Fellow and three-time GRAMMY Award winning jazz vocalist and composer Cécile McLorin Salvant to create a brand-new work inspired by Morrison’s archives. These archives are housed at the university and are currently on display in an exhibit called “Sites of Memory” at the University’s Firestone Library. McLorin Salvant alongside her partner in life and music, pianist Sullivan Fortner make this wholly unique Princeton University Concerts (“PUC”) debut.

“When launching Do-Re-Meet, the PUC team was committed to creating an inclusive experience,” says PUC Committee Chair Brandon Gaines. “For the event on April 12, in particular, the spirit of connection has evolved through PUC’s local partnerships. The great Toni Morrison’s collection is housed here at Princeton, and her work continues to inspire new art including that of the extraordinary jazz vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant. Princeton business Tipple & Rose is an ally for the LGBTQ+ community and a local partner for this first Do-Re-Meet LGBTQ+ Single Mingle. Last, but certainly not least, there’s Do-Re-Meet facilitator Risa Grimaldi, who has been leading singles events in New Jersey for over 16 years. We are lucky to have this network of connections surrounding an evening focused on bringing people together over the love of music.”

Do-Re-Meet events are co-hosted by Princeton University Concerts and Risa Grimaldi of The Singles Group. Tickets to Do-Re-Meet evenings include the full experience—both the social event and the concert— for $50/General and $20/Students.
