RELEASE: Problem Solvers Caucus Applauds the Timely Passage of USMCA

Today, December 19, 2019, Members of the Problem Solvers Caucus applaud the efforts of the White House and Congressional Leadership on the House passage of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). This important international trade deal would modernize the 24-year-old NAFTA and promote mutually beneficial freer markets, fairer trade, and more robust economic growth in North America.

Earlier this year, the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, co-chaired by Representatives Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and Tom Reed (R-NY), joined together to request a timely vote on this nonpartisan economic proposal that benefits all American workers and farmers. The group of Democrats and Republicans are pleased to see that it has in fact been voted on before the year’s end.

“Bringing the USMCA to a vote is good for the American people,” said Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chair Tom Reed. “Its passage through the House is a huge victory where people are put ahead of politics, and I thank my colleagues in the Problem Solvers Caucus for supporting this effort. It is time to get this to the President’s desk, as it is particularly good for our American farmers and workers.”

The USMCA was signed by United States President Donald Trump, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on November 30, 2018 as a side event of the 2018 G20 Summit in Buenos Aires.
