Public Comment from Mayor Jason F. Cilento to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities Regarding the Comcast Application for a System-Wide Cable Television Franchise

Good evening.
As Mayor of Dunellen, I stand in full support of Comcast’s application for a system-wide cable television franchise in our borough. I firmly believe that granting this franchise will not only expand access to a broader range of television options but also open the door to enhanced internet services, fostering competition that will ultimately improve quality and lower costs for our residents and businesses.
In today’s interconnected world, access to reliable and high-speed internet is no longer a luxury but a necessity. By adding another option, our community will be further empowered with the tools they need to thrive in the digital age. This expanded access not only facilitates communication and information sharing but also supports economic growth and innovation within our borough.

Additionally, introducing competition into the cable television market is essential for driving improvements in service quality and affordability. By offering residents multiple options, we create a competitive environment that incentivizes providers to continuously innovate and enhance their offerings. This competition not only benefits consumers through improved service quality and lower costs but also encourages providers to continuously invest in infrastructure upgrades and customer support, further enriching the overall experience for our community.

It is for these reasons that I urge the Board to consider the significant benefits that granting this franchise will bring to Dunellen. Thank you for your time and consideration.
