Rep. Malinowski Votes to Impeach President Trump for Inciting an Insurrection Against American Democracy

(Washington, DC) Today, the House of Representatives passed a bipartisan resolution to impeach President Donald Trump for inciting a deadly insurrection against American democracy. Representative Tom Malinowski is an original cosponsor of the resolution.

“President Trump mobilized and encouraged a mob that attacked the United States Capitol, and that continues to threaten what should have been a peaceful transition of power between now and the inauguration,” said Representative Malinowski. “But this is not just about the next few days. This is a message for generations to come, that Americans will not tolerate leaders who use violence and intimidation to usurp our democracy.”

On January 6th, President Trump incited a deadly insurrection against the U.S. Capitol with the intent of preventing members of Congress from certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election. Five Americans, including a Capitol Police officer, died as a result of the violent attack, and more than 50 police officers were seriously injured, including 15 who were hospitalized.
