Rep. Payne, Jr.’s Statement on the Shooting in Boulder, CO
Washington, D.C. — Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. released the following statement regarding the tragic shooting at a King Soopers supermarket in Boulder, CO on March 22, 2021. A 21-year-old suspect has been arrested for the incident in which 10 people were killed, including Boulder Police Officer Eric Talley, 51.
“My condolences and prayers go out to the families and friends of the victims of the mass shooting in Boulder, CO. I’m horrified and heartbroken that these events occur with such regularity. There have been 103 mass shootings this year already that have claimed about 9,500 American lives, including more than 60 children.
I am furious that these incidents continue to happen, but nothing gets done to stop them. We, the House Democrats, fight and strive to keep guns out of the hands of hateful, aggressive people. We’ve passed legislation and sent it to the Senate, but we need Republican support to save more American lives. It’s disgraceful that they allow attacks on American citizens.
But that will not stop me from keeping Americans safe from gun violence. I am not going to give up this fight until we have laws that keep guns out of the hands of potential criminals. We need to stop Americans from becoming targets!”
