Rep. Payne, Jr. Tours Rail Facility that could Help Build Hudson River Tunnel
Washington, D.C. — Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr., Chairman of the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials for the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, toured a rail facility recently that could be used to help build the Hudson River Tunnel. The facility, owned by Strategic Rail Solutions (SRS) in North Bergen, hauls away land dug out of the future site of the Hudson River Tunnel during construction. The company works on civil infrastructure projects to transport non-hazardous material from tunnel excavations to another location. It is a minority and women-owned business that operates more than 400 miles of track in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
“As a result of the historic Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that I co-wrote in the U.S. House of Representatives, we are finally moving forward with critical projects like the Hudson River Tunnel of the Gateway Program,” said Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. “This new infrastructure law has spurred companies to make significant investments in our infrastructure to complete projects, create high-paying jobs, and provide more opportunities for minority and women-owned businesses. I thank the team at SRS for the invitation to tour this facility and discuss how we can work together to help build the Hudson River Tunnel.”
Rep. Payne, Jr’s reviewed the facility as part of his work as Chair of the Rail Subcommittee. In addition, he is working diligently to establish a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program within the Federal Railroad Administration. A DBE program sets participation goals for minority and women-owned businesses in federal projects.
