Rep. Sherrill Announces $90,000 in Federal Funding to Improve Housing in Hopatcong

$89,837.54 in USDA Rural Development Grants will go to improve housing for low-income homeowners

Washington, DC – Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) announced today that Hopatcong Borough received a $89,837.54 grant from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Office of Rural Development to repair and rehabilitate housing in the borough. The Housing Preservation Grant will support households with health and safety hazards and improve access for persons with disabilities.

“The USDA Rural Development Grant is an investment in our communities here in North Jersey,” said Representative Sherrill. “Improvement projects for environmental remediation or disability access can be incredibly expensive. This grant will bring much-needed federal dollars back to Sussex County to support low-income residents in making critical repairs to their homes. I will continue to work in Congress to ensure more families in New Jersey have access to safe and affordable housing ”

“We are appreciative that these funds will be available to the residents of the Hopatcong Borough,” said Hopatcong Mayor Michael Francis. “These grant dollars will help residents make important improvements to their homes. There are many people in need and I know the funds will be put to good use.”

According to the USDA: The Housing Preservation Grant Program provides grants to sponsoring organizations for the repair or rehabilitation of housing owned or occupied by low- and very-low-income rural citizens.  USDA will award a total of $15,888,420 in Housing Preservation Grant Program funding for the repair and rehabilitation of rural housing units.
