Rep. Sherrill Statement on Passage of Resolution Denouncing the Horrors of Socialism 

Washington, DC— Today, Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) released the following statement after the House passed a resolution denouncing the horrors of socialism:

“I grew up during the Cold War and saw firsthand how putting all political and economic power into the hands of government led to ‘communist regimes, totalitarian rule, and brutal dictatorships.’ Whether it was Stalin, Mao, Castro, or other dictators too numerous to list here, time and again the concentration of power in a socialist government acted as a corrupting force for its leaders and led to a stagnation of growth, free thought, and innovation in its citizens.

“My vote today reflects my opposition to corrupt, autocratic governments and my support for our democratic system of government based on free and open markets and support for individual entrepreneurs whose innovative spirit has long been the backbone of our economy.”
