Rep. Sherrill Votes to Advance Equality Act

Washington, DC — Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) today voted to pass H.R. 5, the Equality Act, to extend the anti-discrimination protections under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to LGBTQ Americans in housing, education, employment, credit, public accommodation, federal funding, and federal jury service. Representative Sherrill is an original co-sponsor of H.R. 5 and voted for its passage in the 116th Congress.

“No American should be fired from their job, denied an education, or evicted from their home because of who they are,” said Rep. Sherrill. “The Equality Act will ensure equal protection for LGBTQ Americans across the country, following the example we’ve set here in New Jersey. I urge the Senate to send the Equality Act to the president’s desk to deliver this landmark legislation to our LGBTQ community.”
