Ruiz Statement on Weinberg’s Announced 2022 Senate Retirement
Trenton – Senate President Pro Tempore M. Teresa Ruiz issued the following statement on Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg’s announcement that she will retire from the State Senate at the end of her 2022 term:
“Loretta Weinberg has been a beacon of light, a warrior for women, a tremendous public servant, and above all a good friend. Since I started in the Senate her energy, her fight and her fire have always inspired me.
“Her tireless efforts to advance and protect the rights of women, minorities, members of the LGBTQ community, survivors of sexual assault, and all New Jerseyans speak to her legacy as a policymaker and will forever serve as a reminder that our work is never done.
“I have always been in awe of Loretta’s strong moral compass and unrelenting advocacy, and I am grateful we have one last year to cause good trouble together. While I will be sad to see her go, there is no one more deserving of a long relaxing retirement filled with family and friends than Senator Weinberg.”
