Rupande Mehta: “Need to turn page on Christie/Bucco years”

Today, former Governor Chris Christie is hosting a fundraiser for Senator Anthony Bucco’s reelection to the State Senate. Bucco has been a longtime supporter of the former governor from his time in office to his failed presidential bid in 2016. Despite Governor Christie having one of the lowest approval ratings this state has ever seen, Bucco has consistently supported Governor Christie’s destructive agenda for LD-25 constituents.

Throughout Bucco’s decade-long career in the New Jersey legislature, he has voted with Governor Christie 100% of the time.

  • In 2010: Bucco voted against the override for Christie’s veto on Homebuyer Tax Credit.

  • In 2013: Bucco voted against A3972, which “Establishes a task force to study issues related to the establishment of full-day kindergarten.” After Christie vetoed the bill, Bucco voted against overriding Christie.

  • In 2014: Bucco voted against a bill urging Christie to use funds to publicize Obamacare to enroll New Jerseyans.

  • In 2015: Christie and Bucco opposed removing guns from the mentally ill.

  • In 2018: Bucco upheld Christie’s harmful agenda against women by voting against $7.5 million funding for clinics that provide birth control and health screenings to thousands of uninsured women.

Rupande Mehta is an independent voice for LD-25 constituents and will not simply vote with party lines.  Throughout her career she has always advocated for people. As a survivor of domestic violence, Rupande understands the needs of those who are victims and has consistently upheld the rights of survivors and those who need a voice. Rupande recognizes the health disparities faced by constituents in LD-25 and if elected she will vote in favor of increased access to healthcare for all and the protection of women’s rights.

It’s clear from Bucco’s record in the New Jersey legislature that he’s more interested in Christie’s political agenda rather than the interests of LD-25 constituents.

“Bucco’s values are not representative of the great state of New Jersey. Although he would like you to believe otherwise, they are not representative of this district. I am running to stand up for New Jersey families from all walks of life. If elected in November, I will work with both sides of the aisle to ensure that I fight for all constituents, especially during these unprecedented times,” said Mehta.

Rupande Mehta has 15+ years of professional experience and currently works for a Fortune 500 company in New Jersey. She is a proud 2019 Emerge graduate, a founding board member of Inspiring South Asian American Women (ISAAW), and the former Morris County Director of the South Asian American Caucus (SAAC). Mehta also founded the SAR Foundation, which is dedicated to train local and state organizations on issues of domestic violence. Rupande is running for State Senate to stand up for New Jersey families from all walks of life.
