Schnoll Elected GOP Chairman in Mahwah

At Monday’s reorganization meeting for the Mahwah GOP County Committee, Michael Schnoll was unanimously elected as the new Municipal Chair.

Schnoll, who just turned 25 on Saturday and is a 2024 graduate of Indiana University, has served as Vice Chair for the last two years. Phil Ross, the outgoing Chairman, nominated Schnoll, as he declined to seek a second term. Councilman Ward Donigian seconded the nomination. He is now the youngest GOP Municipal Chair in Bergen County (perhaps for both parties).

Mahwah is the largest municipality in the 39th Legislative District and home the district’s largest plurality of registered Republicans. It is also one of the largest municipalities in Bergen County.

“Tonight, I was honored to be unanimously elected as the new Mahwah GOP Municipal Chairman. It's been a pleasure to have served as Vice Chair for the last two years, and to have served on the county committee for the last seven years (since my 18th birthday),” Schnoll said following the meeting. “I appreciate the confidence of the committee and our elected officials to serve as Mahwah GOP Chairman. We love our Township. Big things coming!”Earlier this month, Schnoll, and everyone on his slate, surprisingly ran unopposed. This followed a highly contentious and competitive cycle of county committee elections in both Mahwah and Oakland in 2024, which resulted in a landslide win for the current majority faction.

Schnoll, a former intern for Assemblyman Bob Auth (R-Old Tappan) is also Secretary of the Bergen County Young Republicans and is a member of the Mahwah Historic Preservation Commission. He is the longest serving member of the township’s Republican County Committee.

Board of Education Trustee Chris Hughes was nominated by Donigian to replace Schnoll as Vice Chair, seconded by Ross. Hughes is the Chief of Staff to Assemblyman Chris DePhillips (R-Wyckoff).

Lou Theodorou, a dentist, was nominated for Secretary by Ken Schnoll and seconded by Hughes.
