SENATOR JEAN STANFIELD STATEMENT ON VICTORIA KUHN’S CONFIRMATION AS CORRECTIONS COMMISSIONER

TRENTON — Senator Jean Stanfield (R-Westampton) issued the following statement on the Senate confirmation of Victoria Kuhn today to lead the NJ Department of Corrections:

“It’s no secret that the Department of Corrections has been under a cloud of scandal for some time. It has now been nearly two years since the U.S. Department of Justice brought to light the unlawful and disturbing crimes taking place against the women at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility.

Government officials have a duty to assume responsibility for the people they serve and for the actions of employees under their watch. The people of New Jersey were rightfully appalled and ashamed these crimes took place and that officials at the highest level of government refused to take responsibility.

In my time meeting with Mrs. Kuhn and reviewing her record, I was impressed by her integrity and her dedication to restoring the reputation of the department. I believe Victoria Kuhn has the experience and passion for justice to lead the Department of Corrections forward.
