Sheriff Anthony Cureton endorses Gordon M. Johnson for District 37 State Senate

As a lifelong resident of Englewood, I am proud to endorse Gordon Johnson to be our next State
Senator representing the 37th Legislative District. Over the course of his career, both in law
enforcement and as a state legislator, Gordon has been a leader on the issues that matter most to
our communities. He has fought for social justice reform, improved school safety, stronger gun
control laws, expanded access to health care, higher minimum wage, and protecting rights of
women – just to name a few. Gordon is a widely respected, solutions-oriented civic and
community leader who is dedicated to improving people’s lives and protecting public safety.

Throughout his distinguished 40-year career as a public servant, Gordon Johnson has been a
trailblazer in our community. He was the first African American to serve as Acting Bergen
County Sheriff, only the 2 nd African American from Bergen County to serve in the State
Assembly and when he is elected to the State Senate, he will become the first African American
Senator in our county’s history. District 37 is among the most diverse in the entire state, and our
legislative delegation should reflect our communities.

It’s clear that Assemblymen Johnson is the right person for the job, and as our State Senator he
will continue to serve the people of Bergen County with honor and integrity.”
