Rep. Sherrill Statement on the Inauguration of President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. and Vice President Kamala Harris

Washington, DC — Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) released the following statement after the inauguration of President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. and Vice President Kamala Harris:

“With the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris at the U.S. Capitol this afternoon, the country can begin to heal after four years of division and intolerance.

“President Biden will work on behalf of all Americans. His experience, empathy, and grace are perfectly suited to this moment when we need such qualities more than ever.

“He will work with Congress to usher in a new era of American leadership that harnesses the resilience that has always defined the United States. The coronavirus pandemic, economic recession, systemic racism, climate crisis, and our crumbling infrastructure all require intense focus and commitment. His decades of public service have prepared him to meet the challenges we face, and I know President Biden and his administration will help us build back better.

“As the first woman, first Black American, and first Asian American to serve as Vice President, Kamala Harris gives the United States even more reason to believe in our potential and our future. She is a shining example to women and girls across the world, and I am so grateful that my daughters and my sons have her to look up to as an example. She will be a strong leader alongside President Biden.

“Today is a day to celebrate and turn to the work that lies ahead.”
