Sierra Club: A Great Day for New Jersey’s Environment
A Great Day for New Jersey’s Environment
Today Phil Murphy was sworn in as the new Governor of New Jersey. The New Jersey Sierra Club had endorsed Phil Murphy, and the new Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver, from the beginning. We believe that under their leadership, New Jersey’s environment will be protected from Trump rollbacks and we can build a greener economy. Jeff Tittel, Director of the New Jersey Sierra Club, released the following statement:
“This was an excellent speech and it’s a great day for New Jersey. With Phil Murphy, we’re going to turn this state around and make is a national leader on the environment again. Even though he’s on our side, it’s going to be up to us to make sure it happens. We must work to pass bills in the Legislature that support fighting climate change and promoting green energy.
“During his inaugural speech, Phil Murphy laid out his aggressive and optimistic goals for making New Jersey a cleaner, greener state. These goals include tackling the problem of lead in our water and homes, fighting climate change, and promoting renewable energy. He stated his intent to make sure that New Jersey follows the standards of the Paris Accords and fights against Trump’s offshore drilling plans.
“We agree with Governor Murphy that it’s time to make New Jersey’s environment great again. He knows we can grow our economy while protecting our environment. He knows we must protect our children from lead. We can have windmills off our coasts to fight Trump’s oil wells. We can protect public health while creating green jobs and fighting climate change. Together, we can build a green wall around New Jersey.”
