SINGLETON KICKS-OFF 6^th YEAR OF MONTHLY COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS AT HABITAT FOR HUMANITY RESTORE

Event held as a Day of Service in Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

MAPLE SHADE, NJ– Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Senator Troy Singleton is once again partnering with Habitat for Humanity of South Central New Jersey for his January community service project. The “Serve with Senator Singleton” event will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023 from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore located at 530 Route 38 East in Maple Shade.

The Senator and a group of volunteers will be tackling a variety of tasks to help support the ReStore. Volunteers must be at least 15 years old. “I am excited to kick-off the 6^th year of our ‘Serve with Senator Singleton’ community service projects,” said Senator Singleton. “Over the past five years, I have joined with volunteers to serve and build stronger communities through monthly community service projects with local Burlington County organizations. Inspired by the Day of Service that is honored on Dr. Martin Luther King’s Day, our monthly ‘Serve with Senator Singleton’ events have brought people of different backgrounds and ages together to serve for a common purpose – the community,” said Singleton.

Each month, Senator Singleton crowd-sources a team of volunteers to help with a particular community service project. The event at the ReStore will be the Senator’s 49^th “Serve with Senator Singleton” event since becoming State Senator in 2018. Previous volunteer efforts include: indoor and outdoor clean-up days, animal welfare projects, clothing and supply drives, painting projects, and community event set-up and staffing. To date, more than 1,900 hours have been donated by volunteers to local community service projects.

“This is our fifth time returning to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore to hold a Day of Service in honor of Dr. King. Habitat’s ongoing mission to help people build an affordable home, or improve their existing home, makes it a worthy partner to kick-off our 2023 service events,” continued Singleton, who serves as Chairman of the Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee.

The ReStore is Habitat for Humanity’s home improvement store open to the public that offers new and used items for 50-90% off the retail price. Proceeds from the store go back to the construction of affordable houses in the community.

“As Dr. King said, ‘Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve…You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love,” said Singleton.
