Sires: U.S. Orders 100 Million Additional COVID-19 Vaccine Doses

U.S. Orders 100 Million Additional COVID-19 Vaccine Doses

(Washington, D.C.) –On December 23, 2020, the Federal Government reached an agreement with Pfizer and BioNTech to receive an additional 100 million doses of their COVID-19 vaccine. Pfizer and BioNTech have already agreed to supply the U.S. with 100 million vaccine doses by March 31, 2021. This new order will increase the total number of vaccine doses to 200 million by July 31, 2021.

“The procurement of more vaccine doses is an encouraging step forward in getting Americans inoculated and back to their normal routines,” said Rep. Sires. “These additional doses will be added to our existing stockpile in the coming months and will assist in the rapid distribution of the vaccine across the country. As more doses of the vaccine come in, we will continue vaccinating those at risk and essential workers before moving onto the general public. While news of further vaccine delivery is greatly welcomed, it is imperative that we remain vigilant in our fight against the virus in the meantime. Throughout this holiday season, we must continue to wear a mask, keep our distance, and wash our hands to protect both ourselves and our communities.”

Congressman Sires has also helped introduce bipartisan legislation with Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) to fund states public awareness campaigns to promote the safety and efficacy of the vaccine. You can view more information on that legislation here.
