SMART-TD Endorses Mikie Sherrill for Reelection

West Caldwell, NJ — The International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Workers (SMART), Transportation Division, announced today their endorsement of Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill for reelection in NJ-11.

“Mikie Sherrill has been an outspoken advocate for finding ways to work together to address New Jersey’s critical infrastructure needs. As we have seen repeatedly during her time in Congress, she backs up her words with action, and that is why she is the clear choice for reelection in the 11th District of New Jersey,” said Ron Sabol, SMART-TD New Jersey State Legislative Director. “Not only has Mikie been a champion for infrastructure investments like the Gateway Tunnel Project, but she continues to be an ally in our efforts to combat the increased assaults and violence against our bus and rail workers.”

“From facilitating commutes for so many working families to moving freight and supporting our supply chains, transportation workers power North Jersey,” said Rep. Mikie Sherrill. “I am proud to receive the endorsement of SMART-TD and I will continue working to see our transportation network supported, maintain New Jersey’s competitiveness, and keep our workers safe on the job.”

SMART, the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers, is one of North America’s most dynamic and diverse unions with 208,000 members. SMART’s members produce and provide the vital services that move products to market, passengers to their destinations and ensure the quality of the air we breathe. SMART Transportation Division (formerly known as the United Transportation Union), an AFL-CIO affiliate, is the broad-based, transportation division representing about 125,000 active and retired railroad, bus and mass transit workers in the United States.

Throughout her first two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congresswoman Sherrill has been a steadfast champion of the working men and women of labor. A member of the House Education and Labor Committee and the newly formed Labor Caucus, she is committed to supporting the next generation of workers in New Jersey and across the country. Congresswoman Sherrill is a cosponsor of the PRO Act and the National Apprenticeship Act in both the 116th and 117th Congresses and was a strong advocate for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that creates millions of good-paying jobs by funding critical infrastructure projects across New Jersey and the country.
