SOMERSET COUNTY SHERIFF DARRIN RUSSO ENDORSES JAMES DAVIS FOR HUDSON COUNTY SHERIFF

Law Enforcement Officials Continue to Rally Around Davis for Sheriff

Hudson County, NJ – Somerset County Sheriff Darrin Russo has endorsed James Davis for Hudson County Sheriff.  Sheriff Russo highlighted Mayor Davis’ vast experience in law enforcement as well as his work cutting debt and holding down costs as mayor of Bayonne in issuing his endorsement for Davis in the June 10th Democratic Primary.

“I’ve been friends with Mayor Davis for a number of years and I know he is the best person to lead in these changing times,” said Sheriff Russo.  “The mayor’s drive and determination have put Bayonne back on the right track financially and his vision and leadership will help bring the sheriff’s office into the future.  The duties and responsibilities of the Sheriff’s Office are critical for county residents and Mayor Davis’ values and dedication to public service make him the best man for the job.”

James Davis rose to the position of captain in the Bayonne Police Department.  He led a special crimes unit and worked alongside prosecutors from several counties, the FBI, U.S. Treasury Department and Department of Justice.  As mayor of Bayonne, Davis oversaw the reduction of decades’ old debt and spearheaded the revitalization of the city, bringing new businesses to Bayonne while working to increase access to affordable housing for all residents.

“I’ve seen the tremendous work Sheriff Russo has done in Somerset County and I am grateful for his endorsement and his friendship,” said Davis.  “It takes a unique skill set to lead effectively and I believe that is one of the many things that sets me apart from my opponent in this election.  The exorbitant financial excesses in the Sheriff’s office are a nightmare for county taxpayers but the deterioration of morale under his leadership represent an even more immediate danger for every county resident.”

The Hudson County Sheriff’s Superiors FOP #127, a group under Sheriff Schillari’s direct command, stated in their endorsement of Davis for Sheriff that they believe “his vision will restore pride in the badge and bring back a sense of purpose” missing with Schillari in charge.

Davis has already received the endorsement of the Hudson County Democratic Organization and Democratic Chair Craig Guy and Vice-Chair Mareilka Diaz, Union City Mayor Brian P. Stack, West New York Mayor Albio Sires, Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner, Kearny Mayor Carol Jean Doyle, PBA Local 7, the Police Superior Officers Association (PSOA), FMBA Local 11, Fire Officers Local 211 and the Hudson County Sheriff’s Superiors FOP Lodge #127
