Speaker Coughlin Introduces Graduation Insurance Bill

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-Middlesex) announced that today he formally introduced legislation to ensure school districts and students in New Jersey are protected with proper liability insurance should they host graduation ceremonies after June 30, 2020. The Speaker issued the following statement:

“We must ensure that graduating high school seniors continue to be covered under a school district’s liability insurance policy after June 30.

“The bill I introduced today would provide liability insurance coverage to graduates who attend school district-sponsored graduation ceremonies on school grounds between July 6, 2020 and July 31, 2020.

“We are experiencing unprecedented challenges as we live through the COVID-19 pandemic. Graduation is a rite of passage for high school seniors. We must put all possible safeguards in place so that students can safely celebrate a milestone they’ll remember forever.”
