Speaker Coughlin Statement on Announcement of
NJ Gas Tax Rate Decrease
(TRENTON) – Responding to the New Jersey Department of Treasury’s announcement today of an 8.3-cent decrease of the gas tax rate due to take effect on October 1, Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin (D-Middlesex) issued the following statement:
“The result of our strong economic recovery, underpinned by rebounding travel, brings with it welcome news for all New Jersey drivers this October. Not only does a lower gas tax provide some savings, but it also signals that annual revenue exceeded projections meaning New Jersey is well on target to fund critical improvements of our roads and bridges. Ensuring a well-maintained transportation infrastructure, as a core responsibility of government, is crucial to the success of our state’s economy and so I welcome this year’s tax decrease as a sign of forward-moving progress.”
