Speaker Pro Tempore Johnson Statement on FTA Finalizing Funding Agreement with NJTRANSIT for Portal North Bridge

(TRENTON)  In response to the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) finalizing an agreement with NJTRANSIT to help fund the replacement of the Portal North Bridge through a $766.5 million grant, Speaker Pro Tempore Gordon Johnson (D-Bergen) issued the following statement:

“New Jerseyans deserve quality, reliable infrastructure. For years, residents have waited for the outdated Portal North Bridge to be replaced. At more than a century old, this heavily-used passenger rail line has caused significant disruptions for countless commuters due to mechanical failures – failures that have been far too frequent. I am pleased to see construction is that much closer to getting underway thanks to the support of the FTA. I look forward to seeing this project begin.”
