Stanfield and Peters to beautify peace garden for domestic violence survivors

PEMBERTON TWP. – Assemblywoman Jean Stanfield and Assemblyman Ryan Peters will be
providing upkeep to a peace garden in Pemberton Township that memorializes local victims of
domestic abuse.

As part of their “District Day of Service,” the 8th Legislative District representatives will be taking
their staff to the NAR Soroptimist Peace Garden on South Lakeshore Drive in Browns Mills to
plant new flowers, shrubs, repaint signs and do yard work at the garden the morning of
Wednesday, August 25.

“I’ve worked with Soroptimist in the past. It’s a wonderful organization that helps out so many
women. I’m honored to be able to lend my time and sweat equity to help give domestic violence
survivors a peaceful place to relax by a beautiful lake,” Stanfield said.

Stanfield, Peters and their office team have been watering the garden in Browns Mills
throughout the month of August and will now all join up to beautify it further. The peace garden
is a memorial to local victims of domestic violence and a place where any domestic violence
survivor can go for serenity.

“Our office is here to help the volunteer efforts for the great people in our community, including
Soroptimist. We can’t wait to get our hands dirty for a good cause,” Peters said.

Soroptimist is a global organization that provides women and girls with access to the education
and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.

Assemblywoman Stanfield and Assemblyman Peters go out into the community and volunteer
for a full day at least once a month as part of their “District Day of Service” initiative. In the past,

the legislators have painted and stocked a domestic violence safehouse, provided thousands of
free meals to seniors in need, collected diapers and formula for women and children in need,
and much more. To participate in a “District Day of Service” or to learn more, please contact 8th
District Community Organizer Nikki Maskell at nmaskell@njleg.org.
