Statement from Assemblywoman Vainieri Huttle On DeLorenzo’s ‘Family Values’ Comment
“On Tuesday, Hasbrouck Heights Mayor John “Jack” DeLorenzo won his bid for re-election against Councilman Chris Hillmann. Unlike most elected officials who respectfully celebrate their victories, Mayor DeLorenzo decided to adjudicate his victory with the notion that his victory was a referendum on his personal definition of “family values”, which to Mayor DeLorenzo are anti-LGBT values. Let’s make one thing abundantly clear, homophobia, intolerance and ignorance is not a family value. No, the family values of Hasbrouck Heights are that of Bergen County, are that of New Jersey, they are of equality and acceptance. While I wish Mayor DeLorenzo a successful term, I know that one thing is certain, Hasbrouck Heights would’ve been in fine hands under the leadership of Christopher Hillmann, there is no doubt in my mind that his administration would have kept Hasbrouck Heights great, in fact I believe it would have made it even better.”
