Statement by Congressman Rob Menendez on H.R. 1

“I came to Congress to solve problems, to work on real solutions for working families in the Eighth Congressional District. Instead, today, we voted on GOP legislation that only exacerbates the very real problem of climate change.

“H.R. 1 not only fails to meet the moment, but threatens to accelerate climate change and eliminate environmental protections that Americans have benefitted from for over half a century like the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act.

“The Inflation Reduction Act – passed by House Democrats and signed by President Biden – is actively equipping our nation and our district with tools to fight climate change, prevent flooding, lessen greenhouse gas emissions, and improve our water infrastructure. H.R. 1 equips polluters with tools to continue destroying our environment – all while lining their pockets.

“House Democrats stand ready to work across the aisle on meaningful climate change solutions that meet this moment. H.R. 1 does not, which is why I proudly voted No.”
