Statement by Director Shanel Y. Robinson on the passing of Sheriff Frank Provenzano

Somerset Sheriff Frank Provenzano says allegations that he has withdrawn his support for North Plainfield Police Chief Bill Parenti's run for Somerset County Sheriff are false.

SOMERVILLE, NJ – “On behalf of the Somerset County Board of County Commissioners, I am saddened to hear of the passing of retired Somerset County Sheriff Frank Provenzano, and to honor him we will be flying Somerset County flags at half-mast.

Frank served and protected the people of Somerset County for many years, first for five decades as a Bridgewater police officer retiring with the rank of Captain and then for 18 years and six terms as our Sheriff. As Sheriff, Frank launched a number of new initiatives, including K-9 Unit, Project Lifesaver, RX Drop-off, HERO for designated-drivers, Special Response Team, and the school resource officers at the Somerset County Vocational and Technical High School.

We offer our deepest condolences to his loved ones.”
