Statement by Governor Murphy on the Third Circuit’s Decision in Siegel/Koons v. Platkin

“Today’s decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit upholding New Jersey’s protections for certain sensitive public spaces represents a major victory  for commonsense firearm laws. Every New Jerseyan deserves to feel safe and free from harm in public spaces—whether in a classroom, at a youth sporting event, or enjoying a day at the zoo, park, beach, or playground. When I signed our nation-leading gun safety package, I did so to protect our residents. As a result, we have seen historic lows in gun violence, making New Jersey the safest state in the nation. We remain unwavering in our commitment to protect families from gun violence. That means keeping dangerous weapons and accessories out of the wrong hands and out of sensitive spaces, defending our laws in court, and ensuring New Jersey continues to lead the nation in the fight for safer communities.”
