Statement by Pastor Ronald Slaughter

Carl Golden, senior contributing analyst with the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy at Stockton University, argues that despite continual mass shooting incidents in the U.S., gun rights absolutists will win Congress once more, and either no or purely cosmetic action will take place.

Today we lost a passionate servant of the people, a beacon of integrity, a champion of justice, and a tireless advocate for his constituents. I’ve witnessed first hand Congressman Payne’s unwavering dedication to making a positive impact through his genuine care for those around him. Though he may no longer walk among us, his legacy of compassion, commitment and service will continue to inspire us all. Let us remember him with gratitude for the profound imprint he left on our hearts, our city, our state and our nation. Prayers ascending on behalf of his wife, children, uncle, cousin, family and friends.
