Statement on Councilwoman Rice’s attack on Shama Haider and Ellen Park

The scene tonight in Teaneck.

“As an individual Teaneck Board of Education Trustee, I call on Teaneck Councilwoman Rice to apologize to Shama Haider, and Ellen Park for trying to politicize their participation in a rally against violence towards AAPI people.  Part of the work in breaking down oppression and systemic racism against AAPI persons means lifting up AAPI voices.  What better way to do so than to elect NJ’s first Assembly Women of Pakistani and Korean decent.  Their voices will help lift the AAPI community and work toward a better, fairer New Jersey for all.

It’s shameful to attend an event meant to bring unity against the acts of violence and fear mongering towards our brothers and sisters in the Asian Community, only to use it to opportunistically attack the very same community you profess to care for. “
