Statement from Assemblywoman Sadaf F. Jaffer on U.S. Supreme Court’s Draft Opinion to Overturn Roe v. Wade

Responding to recent reports that the U.S. Supreme Court intends to overturn Roe v. Wade, Assemblywoman Sadaf F. Jaffer of the 16th Legislative District (Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Somerset) issued the following statement:

“Like many people in the 16th district and throughout the State of New Jersey, I am distressed that the U.S. Supreme Court plans to infringe on women’s health and bodily autonomy by jeopardizing the right to abortion access. If Roe v. Wade is overturned, women will die, as we see in too many parts of the world and experienced in the United States before safe, legal access to abortion was guaranteed.

Most Americans support abortion access, and we are lucky that in New Jersey our forward-thinking legislature and governor recently passed legislation to protect women’s reproductive choices. We must continue the struggle for equitable healthcare. That is why I continue to fight for legislation that protects providers and patients at women’s health clinics. With a federal court poised to endanger women’s health and safety, we must be even more persistent at the state level.”
