Statement from Chairman John Currie on the Passing of Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr.

We mourn the loss of Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr., an advocate for the people he represented. Representative Payne’s commitment to his community and country set a standard for dedication in public service. Since 2012, he has been a beacon of hope and leadership for Essex, Hudson, and Union counties, and his legacy will live on through the many initiatives he championed.

To many of us, Donald was more than a congressman; he was a community leader, a mentor, and a friend. To the Payne Family, we extend our deepest sympathies. Your loss is felt by all who had the privilege of knowing Donald Payne and experiencing his kindness, compassion, and spirit.

Rest in peace, Congressman Payne. Your legacy of service, kindness, and dedication to improving society will continue to inspire us all.
