Statement from NJSA Regarding NJ State Legislature’s Third Tabling of Temp Workers Bill

Trenton, NJ – December 21, 2022 — The New Jersey Staffing Alliance (NJSA), the voice for staffing firms across the Garden State, is pleased with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle in their efforts to uphold their constitutional duty to enact laws that are fair and responsible. On Monday, for the third time, the New Jersey State Senate refrained from voting on Governor Murphy’s conditional veto of S-511, also referred to “Temporary Worker’s Bill of Rights.” NJSA has engaged in efforts over the past year to discuss fair and equitable provisions for both workers and our member agencies, this third failed attempt to vote on the bill is a clear indication that this piece of legislation has not reached negotiated settlements that will safeguard the workforce industry of New Jersey. 

NJSA firmly believes that while Governor Murphy’s conditional veto of S-511 addressed several administrative issues, it left in place significant elements that would cause not only great harm to the industrial and light industrial sectors of the temporary staffing industry but also its clients and ultimately the citizens whom this bill’s sponsors purported to benefit and protect.

NJSA’s mission is to promote and encourage high standards of ethical practice to ensure the finest possible service to the public. NJSA members are required to adhere to its best business practices and principles for hiring temporary workers through NJSA’s Code of Ethics.

Once more, NJSA welcomes the chance to collaborate with the appropriate parties to create a new piece of legislation that incorporates a number of the protections while posing fewer operational challenges for staffing agencies.
